North Dorset District Council - Liberal Democrat Councillors

The following North Dorset Liberal Democrat members have been elected to serve as district councillors on North Dorset District Council (NDDC) for the four year period 2015-2019:

  • Blandford Central Ward - Cllr John Tanner
  • Blandford Langton St Leonards Ward - Cllr Barrie Cooper
  • Shaftesbury West Ward - Cllr Derek Beer

The NDDC area is sub-divided into political areas called "wards". Each ward is then represented by one or more district councillors. District councillors are re-elected every four years.

NDDC has joined with West Dorset District Council and Weymouth and Portland Borough Council to form the Dorset Councils Partnership. Each council has retained its district/borough councillors but officer departments have been combined up in Dorchester. As a result of this, the NDDC offices at Norden, Salisbury Road, Blandford are no longer used - apart from a small hub office. Instead NDDC Councillors on most committees now meet in Dorchester. However the monthly full council meeting, and also planning meetings, still take place in North Dorset - now at Durweston Village Hall.

The Dorset Councils Partnership is now working with East Dorset District Council and Purbeck District Council to form a new unitary authority for the rural part of Dorset in April 2019 - to be called Dorset Council Unitary Authority. If this happens, there will be new elections for this new unitary authority, instead of the district council, in May 2019.
