The North Dorset Parliamentary Constituency lies to the north-west of the Christchurch/Bournemouth/Poole conurbation. It is a large rural constituency stretching from Stalbridge in the west to Verwood in the east and from Blandford Forum in the south to Shaftesbury and Gillingham in the north.
The constituency includes all of the North Dorset District Council area. It also includes, in the east of the constituency, the northern part of the East Dorset District Council area. The constituency is wholly contained within the Dorset County Council area.
It seems likely that Dorset County Council, East Dorset District Council and North Dorset District Council will all be replaced in April 2019 by a new Dorset Area Unitary Authority. This new unitary authority would also include Weymouth and Portland BC, West Dorset DC and Purbeck DC. The North Dorset constituency would then be wholly contained in the new unitary authority's area.
The constituency is also wholly contained within the Dorset Police & Crime Commissioner's area and the South West England and Gibraltar (SWEG) European Parliamentary Constituency area.
